Sedation Dentistry

Smile Makeover Specialist

If you are not a fan of going to the dentist, you are not alone. A good percentage of the population deals with dental anxiety regularly, and many people actually miss out on important dental cleanings and treatments because of this fear. That is why Dr. Sohaila Deldar and Dr. Mike Deldar believe every dental practice should offer the option of sedation dentistry – a safe, medication-based method of managing dental anxiety.

The Benefits of Sedation Dentistry

Dental anxiety symptoms can vary greatly from person to person. While some patients experience increased heart rate, sweaty palms, and other signs similar to a panic attack, others may get headaches or feel physically ill. Sedation dentistry aims to curb all of these symptoms through the use of FDA-approved medications. Patients who have sensitive gag reflexes or are intimidated by the sounds and smells of a dental office may find the relaxation techniques of sedation dentistry comforting. Most importantly, patients who have avoided necessary dental visits due to fear can get in to see the dentist for the services they need.

Types of Sedation Dentistry

At Advanced Cosmetic Dentistry & TMJ, we offer both nitrous oxide and oral sedation methods. With nitrous oxide or “laughing gas,” you will inhale a safe amount of nitrous which helps you complete your dental treatment in a relaxed, pleasant mood. If you choose the oral sedation option, a simple pill the night before your appointment, a pill one hour before treatment, and one pill during the treatment is all that is needed to make your visit completely stress-free. With both options, you will need to have a friend or family member accompany you. Read more about the types of sedation dentistry offered at our Indianapolis cosmetic dentistry practice.

At Advanced Cosmetic Dentistry & TMJ, we strive to make your visit comfortable, convenient, and enjoyable. Both of our cosmetic dentists are members of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS), a collective of dental professionals who work together to create safe methods of anxiety management for dental patients dealing with fear. We want you to feel comfortable. Come in and let us give you a tour of our office and meet our cosmetic dentistry staff.
